Insilica is an Idener.ai company. IDENER is one of Spain’s leading private R&D groups, ranked first among Spanish companies in funding secured through Horizon Europe, the EU’s flagship research and innovation framework programme.
Our team brings together biotechnology expertise built at the forefront of European R&D, with deep capabilities in metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, and the biological production of complex molecules, alongside top-tier software engineering expertise in AI.
Living cells are extraordinary chemical factories, capable of producing complex molecules with a precision and selectivity that conventional chemistry often struggles to achieve, performing remarkably sophisticated chemistry using little more than water and simple sugars, at near-ambient temperatures and pressures.
Yet harnessing this potential requires reprogramming living cells: redesigning their DNA and metabolic machinery to transform them into engineered biological systems capable of producing the molecules we want. Today, engineering each new system remains a slow, complex, and largely bespoke process, requiring scientists to navigate countless possibilities across biosynthetic pathways, enzymes, genes, and cellular metabolism, followed by extensive experimentation to identify a design that actually works.
For the first time, advances in agentic AI are bringing this vision within reach. The rapidly expanding capabilities of AI systems enable us to explore and evaluate biological complexity at an unprecedented scale, transforming a process traditionally driven by manual exploration and experimentation into one that can increasingly be systematized.
The potential is enormous. The challenge is making it programmable.
At the forefront of AI-driven biological engineering, we leverage specialized AI agents, state-of-the-art biotechnology facilities, and advanced computing infrastructure to power our research and development, enabling molecular and biological engineering across all our programs.
